Allied Media Projects and Talking Dolls are excited to present Complex MovementsBeware of the Dandelions in Detroit, October 6-31. Beware of the Dandelions is a mobile art installation that functions as a performance, workshop space, and visual arts exhibition. The piece is created at the intersection of community organizing, visual design, hip-hop and electronic music, architecture, and theater.

After touring with Beware of the Dandelions in Seattle and Dallas, Complex Movements is bringing this work back home to Detroit. Complex Movements has been collaborating with a Detroit-based Community Cohort of organizers, artists, and community members to shape the Detroit residency and support local social justice work happening in Detroit.

The event schedule includes 20 performances, 4 installation viewings, and 20 community events.

PERFORMANCE

The performance of Beware of the Dandelions is an immersive visual and sound experience that incorporates science-fiction, projections, songs, and interactive game elements. The experience occurs inside a 400 square foot polyhedron dome-like pod structure. It is a participatory experience for audience members, who play the role of post-apocalyptic survivors who must work together to unlock the untold stories of their community.

All performances take place at Talking Dolls, 7145 E Davison St, Detroit, MI 48212.

INSTALLATION

The Beware of the Dandelions installation maps community stories of resilience and resistance. During each installation viewing we will host a facilitated dialogue on movement memories we have collected with communities in Detroit, Dallas, and Seattle, and how these relate to to current and local community-led social justice strategies. Each of these events is an opportunity to view the installation and engage in community dialogue.

All installation viewings take place at Talking Dolls, 7145 E Davison St, Detroit, MI 48212.

COMMUNITY

Beware of the Dandelions engagements are designed to foster and deepen authentic relationships, exchange skills, and build community capacity for visioning. The depth of community involvement and collaboration in Detroit is made possible through a local cohort of artists, organizers, and community members who partner with Complex Movements to co-design the engagement for their community needs. The cohort of eight artists/organizers/community members shapes the experience of Beware of the Dandelions by sharing the unique histories and current landscape of social conditions and how communities are working for change in creative ways.
